Twenty-one members of the Christian Women’s Fellowship of the First Christian Church of Independence met Wednesday, the 6th of March, with Wilma and Vivian hosting the event.
Group leader, Norma, led the group in the CWF prayer and then called on Secretary/-Treasurer, Ernie, to read the Minutes of the January meeting and the current Treasurer’s Report. Correspondence was read, and 15 cards were signed to be mailed to those unable to attend the meeting. It was noted that with no meeting in February due to weather, Valentine cards were mailed to many who are unable to attend regular meetings.
As new business, a committee of 3 was named to obtain new officers to be voted on in June. Judy was appointed as Chairman of the upcoming Spirit Fest event, which will be held here at First Christian Church of Independence on April 13, will include women from Southeast Kansas, and is sponsored by Kansas Disciples Women on a Mission and known as Christian Women’s Fellowship. Overnight stay and meals will be provided for the group, which will require pre-registration of $15 that will include meals and many works hops. This event is open to all women to study, worship and fellowship with other women across the Region.
Today’s lesson was provided by Wilma, reading from “The Power Source” and Tim Russell’s “Wisdom from our Fathers and Mothers”. Marsha provided the devotion, entitled “Two Horses”, and Virginia brought the least coin with “Not Why, But What”.
The group will meet again on Wednesday, the 3rd of April, at 9:30 AM, with Norma and Barbara hosting. Phyllis will provide the lesson, Virginia devotions, and Luella the least coin.
The meeting closed with the Fellowship Benediction and a special prayer for the ill from Judy. Being the first Wednesday of Lent, the group adjourned to the Chapel for the Wednesday Lenten Service, and then on to the Fellowship Hall for the soup luncheon provided by LaDella.
