News from the FCC Bulletin Board

2018 Congregational Thanksgiving Dinner:  Sunday, November 19, at 11:30 am.  Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls and drinks will be provided.  Bring your table service and a covered dish according to the first letter of your last name:  A-G: Salad;  H-O: Pie;  P-Z: Sweet potatoes or other vegetable.

Open Arms Diner will be closed Tuesday, November 21.

The Church Office will be closed Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24.

Advent Season begins Sunday, December 3, with Hanging of the Greens.  Church decorating is scheduled to begin at 9 am on Saturday, December 2.  All are welcome to assist.

Silk poinsettias are being purchased to use for Hanging of the Greens.  If you wish to make a donation in memory or in honor of a loved one to help pay for them, please do so through the Church Office by Friday, December 1.  These poinsettias will remain at the Church to be used for Hanging of the Greens in future years.

Breakfast in the Fellowship Hall:  Sunday, December 3, at 8 am.  Menu will include biscuits and gravy, egg casserole, coffee and juice.

Fellowship Sunday is December 3.  The ladies of CWF will be hosting the annual Tasting Tea in the Fellowship Hall following the Worship Service.

FCC All-Church Christmas Party:  Sunday, December 3, at 5 pm in the Fellowship Hall.  Please bring finger foods.  There will be a $5 gift exchange for adults.  If you wish to participate, bring a gift according to your gender.  A separate $5 gift exchange is planned for the children.

Excursion to Bartlesville to see the Christmas lights at Johnstone Park:  Wednesday, December 13.  Van leaves FCC at 2 pm.  Van registration is $5 per person.  Donation of $1 per person is requested for the park.  Will eat at Dinks Pit Bar-B-Que.  Shopping and meals cost extra.  Please sign up and pay your registration fee in the Church Office.

Excursion to Winfield to see the Christmas lights at Dexter Island Park:  Saturday, December 16.  Van leaves FCC at 2:30 pm.  Van registration is $5 per person.  Donation of $1 per person is requested for the park.  Will also visit Old Henry’s Candy Factory.  Shopping and meals cost extra.  Please sign up and pay your registration fee in the Church Office.

Join the FCC Christmas Choir.  Practices will be on Wednesday evenings, beginning December 6 at 7 pm.  Choir will sing during the Worship Service on December 24.

Bright Christmas:  Sunday, December 10, from 4 – 7 pm in the Fellowship Hall.  This is a special Christmas celebration for children of families who have traditionally gone without during the Christmas Season.  Names are provided by local school administrators.  Monetary donations are needed for this year’s event and can be mailed to CFFI at PO Box 687, Independence, KS  67301.  Checks should be made payable to “Independence Foundation” with “Bright Christmas” written on the Memo line.

Botts Family Christmas:  Sunday, December 17, from 3 – 5 pm in the Sanctuary.  Join the Botts family for a night of Christmas music, laughter and fun.  A freewill offering will be taken, with all proceeds going to the Independence Food Basket.

Bargain Trip Excursions for 2018 are being planned, and your ideas are needed.  If you have any suggestions regarding day trips you would like to make, please contact Judy, Phyllis or the Church Office.
