Let’s Celebrate

Declaration Day, known to most of us as July 4th, is a great holiday for celebrating.  As a nation and as Americans, I often wonder if we realize how blessed we are to live in this great land.  Since July 4, 1776, we have been given the right to live free and to be “one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Sometimes, I wonder if we, as Americans, take all that we have for granted… or do we really appreciate the freedoms and rights that were given to us so long ago?

I cannot help but think of the words of what I call our “American songs.”  I think of “God Bless America,” “The Star Spangled Banner,” “America the Beautiful,” and even “Home on the Range.”  I, personally, still get a lump in my throat when I sing or hear “The Star Spangled Banner.”

We need to celebrate this great day, and it’s good fun to have a cookout, go to the lake, have friends over and set off our fireworks, but I hope we will also remember where all these rights came from.

God Bless us all!
