Weather Wise

Many of us were kind of “homebound” a couple of days this past week, waiting for the huge ice storm that was coming in.  We sat in front of the TV watching our all-knowing weathermen tell us of the severity of the incoming storm and to be prepared for it.  Like others, I started to panic, thinking I needed to stock up on necessary supplies.

My TV Channel 8 out of Tulsa pictured one of their Walmart stores with empty bread shelves.  Panic started to set in.  How could I survive without bread?  “Okay,” I thought, “Let me check out the pantry to see what I have to see me through this storm.”

Well, I could use an extra loaf of bread, but do I need to drive to town just for bread?  After all, according to the Bible:  “Man shall not live by bread alone.”

I have a lot of canned food like spinach, sauerkraut, pork and beans, and, you know, the old standbys that just sit around in the pantry and never get eaten.  And, of course, if it storms really bad and the power goes off, how will I cook the food I have?  Also, with an electric can opener, how will I even get the cans open?

Thinking about this and putting my panic aside, I remembered another verse from the Bible:  “Trust in the Lord.”

 Amen and amen!
