Tom Jewers, Elder, FCC

Being an Elder at FCC in Independence is a privilege for me, and one not taken lightly.  When asked to be an Elder, I did not give an immediate response.  God had to get involved with me to say yes, that it was what he wanted me to do.

To be an Elder is to be a servant.  Many of us have many talents that vary tremendously.  I feel it is an Elder’s duty to be a spiritual leader.  I feel it is the Elder’s responsibility to watch over the flock and to serve the flock.  I feel that, as an Elder, you are a leader in the church.  I could never be an Elder who only serves communion on Sunday.

I do many projects around the church and for the people.  Many people want to make a big deal out of some of them.  If I could do these things and only God knew about them, it would be a wonderful thing to me.  I am not one who enjoys recognition for service done.

Matthew 6:19-21 says, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

I pray every day for our church, for the leaders, for the ministries, for the ministers and, most of all, for all the people of our church.  I pray the Holy Spirit will surround us all, guide us and lead us.

God Bless,

Tom
