Nineteen members of the Christian Women’s Fellowship of the First Christian Church of Independence met Wednesday, the 7th of November, with Virginia  and Laura hosting.  Group leader, Norma, led the group in the opening prayer and then asked for the reading of the minutes and treasurer’s report from secretary, Ernie.  Cards were signed for 17 members unable to attend today’s meeting.

Reminder was made to the group to bring their Best Choice labels to be mailed in next month as a part of our fundraiser for the year. The individual blessing boxes are to be turned in December 5th and will allow the group to again send $500 to the Independence Middle School for distribution to students and families in need of some holiday assistance.  Member and teacher, Jessica, has been our liaison in the program the past few years.

Plans for “Spirit Fest”, an April SE Kansas event being hosted by the Independence First Christian Church, are being made, with Judy chairing the event.

Minnie provided the program with her “show and tell” of the many items she and her helper, Vivian, make and deliver to veterans, cancer patients, new mothers in need of baby blankets, and other lovely homemade items made for people in need.

Discussion was held regarding the women’s day church service held in October, the men’s church service to be held November 25th, bereavement dinners, and incoming mail.

The lesson, from “Growing in Wisdom and Faith”, was given by Ethel, who also presented a program from Heifer International where one can purchase a cow, sheep, goat, or some other animal to assist a needy family in a foreign nation.  The group approved of this program and voted to participate in it.  Devotions from John 15:15 were provided by Laura, and the least coin, “Prayer of Joy”, by Judy.

Today’s birthdays were celebrated – Sara and Sue – along with other November birthdays.

The group dismissed with prayer and was reminded of the December 2nd churchwide Tasting Tea, which we will sponsor.  We were also reminded of the next meeting of December 5th at 11:30 a.m., which will be a soup luncheon and white elephant gift exchange held in the Fellowship Hall, with devotions by Judy and least coin by Virginia.  Hosting will be Ethel and Judy.  Soups will be provided by Sue (creamed chicken), Judy (vegetable), Phyllis (cheeseburger soup), Virginia (taco) and Connie (potato).
