The Christian Women’s Fellowship of the First Christian Church of Independence met Wednesday, the 3rd of October, with 22 members in attendance. Hosting the event with fall décor and a fall apple cake were Sue and Minnie.
Group leader Norma opened the meeting with prayer, followed by presentation of the minutes and treasurer’s report by Secretary/Treasurer Ernie. A letter of appreciation from the church was read as a thank you for the $1,000 given to assist with the rising cost of the operations of the church.
Group leader Norma reported that our church has been accepted as the site in April for the 2019 “Spirit Fest”, which will bring women from all of SE Kansas to Independence for the event.
Seventeen cards were signed, ready to mail to those unable to attend today’s meeting, with prayer for the ill given by Minnie.
Discussion and planning for the October 28th Sunday service was held; Phyllis will be the speaker with various others participating. The theme will be Christian Women’s Fellowship and its programs, with Special Music provided by women of the group.
The lesson, given by Judy and taken from various bible verses, was entitled, “Gossiping of the Tongue.” Lu gave the devotion, entitled, “Keeping our Focus”, and Virginia brought the least coin with “Words of the Flesh and Spirit”.
The group will meet in the Parlor November 7th with Virginia and Laura hosting, Ethel giving the lesson, Laura bringing the devotion and Judy providing the least coin. All women of the church are invited to attend, and guests are welcome.
The group dismissed in prayer.
