From Pastor Mark

This article is from Kate Loop, titled, “The Most Important Thing May Not be What You Think.”

Emma’s day began on a positive note.  She had a lot to do, so she got up early, had her normal one cup of coffee with breakfast, got dressed and headed to the store to take care of some errands.

The hot summer day blazed upon her, but she did not particularly notice it.  She had to get these errands done and get to work on time!  She had a bottle of water in her purse but did not take the time to stop and drink it; there just wasn’t time.  She had meant to get some water when she got to work, but she soon became engrossed in other tasks and forgot all about it.

This was not the first time she had not gotten enough water during the day.  For the last few weeks, her job responsibilities had increased, and she rarely had any free time during her working hours, so the busier she was, the less time she spent drinking water.

By that evening, Emma was exhausted.  She felt cold, clammy and nauseous.  Her muscles ached – why were her muscles aching so much?  Why was she beginning to shake?

Slowly, it dawned on her; she was dehydrated.  A friend had explained that dehydration leads to exhaustion, muscle fatigue, aches and pains.  As she lay doubled over in pain, she wished with all her heart that she had taken the time to drink more water during the day.  Being dehydrated had led her to putting off what had been the most important thing on her schedule that day, only she had not realized it.

On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.” (John 7:37)

“For my people have committed two evils:  They have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.” (Jeremiah 2:13)
