What Is A Father

Each year, we celebrate the 3rd Sunday in June and honor our fathers. We all have a father; some call him “Dad” or “Pop” or “Papa”… or maybe you have someone you call a “father figure”.  Whatever we call our father, we all have different ideas about who he is or what he means to us.  Mostly, I think a child has wonderful ideas of what a father is.

Looking back to my growing up years, I remember my dad in many ways.  We always called him “Dad”; sometimes, my mother even called him “Dad”.

Dad had many talents.  He farmed… He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 32 years…  He loved to fish, hunt, garden… and grew beautiful roses.  He built our home… loved to play dominoes… always cooked our breakfast… but, mostly, I remember that he loved us, and we knew it.

No matter what we call our father, we each have these precious thoughts of him.  So, if you are still able to reach out and give him a hug or say, “I love you, Dad,” this could be one of those memories you will  never forget.
